Wow! What an incredible week. We have so much to celebrate! Over 100 children registered for VBS and came to experience God's love. On Sunday, 50 children were here singing and dancing and leading us in worship at our Contemporary Service. Over, 140 people stayed after church to play, laugh, eat and have fun. More than 50 youth and adult volunteers stepped up in various ways to make it all possible. And last, but not least, Pastor Katie got in a pie in her face because our children more than met their mission goal, gathering over 300 items for the Platte County Back to School Drive.
And believe it or not, that's not all we have to celebrate. On top of a successful VBS, we are also celebrating that through the generosity of your giving we are able to send not just 10, but all 50 kids from Pine Ridge Reservation to camp at the end of the summer, plus we have been able to put an additional $800 aside for the future needs of children and youth at Pine Ridge. Pine Ridge is one of the most impoverished places in the world, and through these camp experiences seeds of hope are being planted and kids are dreaming big dreams for their future.
In a world that has faced so much violence turmoil the last few weeks, I rejoice at being a part of this church community that is changing the world for the better by creating safe spaces for children to experience loving community and growing faith.
And the best news yet is that we are not done! Heartland Day Camp is just two weeks away. Last summer was our first year of hosting this amazing ministry. This camp experience includes everything great about camp, from horse back riding, to silly songs, to campfire stories and s'mores-- all right here in our own backyard at PCUMC. So, start spreading the word, because no child will want to miss this awesome experience. It's only $80 for the entire week, and we have scholarships available so every single kid can have access to the amazing camp, no matter their family's income level.
